Month 1 of the year 30

Well, here I am. I am not exactly sure how to begin my first blog so I am just typing the first thing that comes into my head. This year, on July 28th, I will turn 30 years old. I suppose I have finally accepted that fact but I've been resisting it for so long. I have dreaded it for years, not just because it forces me to recognize that I'm no longer as young as I used to be or that the numbers 3 and 0 when placed together seem so very adult and mature. It is also because of those who have gone ahead, those who have turned 30 before me and who have lived to tell the sad story--that turning 30 is harder than turning 40.

I think I've decided to accept it (maybe not embrace it) and not hide from it, to look the year 30 in the face, crows' feet and all. This year I am resolving to celebrate the life God has blessed me with by trying some new things. Once a month I plan to do something I've never done before, even beyond July (when I actually turn 30). They won't be exciting or expensive things as I am currently a full time graduate student with a hectic schedule and extremely limited finances; there won't be skydiving adventures or trips to Antarctica, in other words. But even small things never attempted can be fun and meaningful, and it will perhaps require more creativity.

What I hope to do is blog each month about what I did that was new and different for me. January is already under my belt; I have never blogged before and am not sure still that I know what I am doing! If anyone ever reads this and would like to offer some cheap/free/PG-rated ideas as to things I could try this year, that would be greatly appreciated.
